When to Visit Musandam & Khasab from Dubai: Complete Guide
Most travel sites will tell you “October to April” and call it a day. And sure, that’s technically correct—but it’s not very helpful if you’re trying to figure out whether your trip, on your dates, is actually going to be good.
The truth is, the best time to visit Musandam depends entirely on what you’re after. A January camping night under the stars is a completely different experience from diving off a dhow into bath-warm August water. Neither is wrong—they’re just different trips for different people.
We run tours here every day of the year, so here’s what we genuinely see on the ground.
Seasonal Guide: When to Plan Your Musandam Khasab Trip
Peak Season (November to February) – Best for Hiking & Camping
If you want the full picture—dhow cruise, mountain safari, hiking, camping, snorkeling—these four months are when everything comes together. Days sit comfortably between 20°C and 28°C. Warm enough to swim, cool enough to actually enjoy a hike without counting the minutes until shade. Nights on the water drop to around 15°C, so pack a light layer if you’re doing an overnight cruise.
The sea is calm and clear. Dolphins show up almost every morning, riding the bow of the boat like they own it. Snorkeling visibility around Telegraph Island regularly hits 10–15 meters. The drive up to Jebel Harim is spectacular without the heat taking the joy out of it.
The catch? Everyone else knows this too. December and January in particular get busy fast—especially around UAE long weekends and the Christmas break. If you’re planning for those months, book early. The good boats go first.
Shoulder Season (October, March & April) – Great Weather & Fewer Crowds
October is quietly one of the most underrated months to visit. The summer heat has broken, the crowds haven’t fully arrived yet, the sea is still warm from summer, and the fjords feel peaceful. If your dates are flexible and you want good weather without peak-season chaos, October is worth serious consideration.
March and April are the warm end of the good season. April gets up to 32–33°C, but the water temperature rises with it, which actually makes swimming more enjoyable. You’ll find slightly lower prices and fewer people, and—in April especially—you’re catching the last truly comfortable month for mountain hiking before summer sets in.
Summer Season (May to September) – Best for Water Sports & Budget Travel
Let’s be straight with you: June, July, and August on land are genuinely tough. Temperatures hit 38–40°C. Hiking exposed mountain terrain in that heat isn’t just uncomfortable — it’s not smart. Mountain safaris in peak summer are something we actively steer people away from.
But here’s what most guides skip over: the water is incredible. Sea temperatures reach 30–32°C. The fjords are quiet—almost empty some days. Prices drop significantly. If your version of a Musandam trip is mostly time in or on the water—a dhow cruise, snorkeling, floating in a quiet bay with a cold drink—summer is genuinely a solid option.
May and September are the sweet spots within the hot season. The edge has come off the heat, the sea is warm and clear, and prices are still lower than peak season. For budget-conscious travelers who don’t mind warmth, these two months are a real hidden value.

| December | ~25°C | Camping, cruises, holiday travel | Very popular — book well in advance |
Visiting Musandam During Ramadan and Eid Holidays
Islamic holidays follow the lunar calendar, so the dates shift roughly 10 to 11 days earlier each year. It’s worth checking the local calendar before you lock in your travel plans.
During Ramadan:
Mostly tours and hotels run as normal, but visitors should avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours out of respect for local customs. Once sunset hits, the atmosphere shifts completely as restaurants open up and local night markets come alive for Iftar.
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha:
Both are major celebrations—accommodations fill up fast and border crossings can get busy. That said, the atmosphere is genuinely warm and festive, and it’s a meaningful time to experience Omani culture if you plan ahead and book early.
Best Time to Visit Musandam Based on Your Activities
Best Time for Dhow Cruise and Other Activites
For a mix of dhow cruises, like half day dhow cruises and full day dhow cruises, mountain safaris, hiking, beach camping, and overnight dhow cruises, October to April is generally the best time to visit Musandam. The weather is more comfortable for outdoor activities, sightseeing, and spending time on the water.
Best Time for Swimming and Snorkeling
Swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing on a dhow cruise are possible during much of the year, depending on sea and weather conditions. October till April, and May can be good choices for enjoying the water while avoiding the coolest winter months, although temperatures and prices vary by season.
Best Time to Visit with Kids
November to March is a good time for family trips to Musandam. The cooler weather makes boat trips and outdoor activities more comfortable for children, while dolphin watching adds excitement to the journey. Remember that dolphin sightings and sea conditions can never be guaranteed.
Best Time for Budget Travelers
May-June to August-September can be worth considering if you’re looking for lower seasonal prices and don’t mind the heat. Plan outdoor activities for early morning, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day. Check tour availability and weather conditions before booking.
Best Time for a Quieter Experience
If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting outside the busy winter season, particularly in late summer or around the shoulder months. You may find a more peaceful atmosphere around the fjords and Telegraph Island, although visitor numbers depend on the date and tour schedules.
Final Tip: Book Ahead to Avoid Missing Out
The most common thing we hear from visitors who planned late? “I wish I’d booked sooner. “ If you’re eyeing November through February — especially around a UAE long weekend or school holiday — the boats and packages you actually want fill up weeks in advance.
If your dates are flexible, tell us. We can usually find something that gives you the same experience with better availability, fewer crowds, and often a better price.
